GTA 6: what's confirmed and what isn't

A living fact-check of Grand Theft Auto VI until the 19 November 2026 launch: release date, platforms, the Extended Look, and the claims Rockstar still has not confirmed.

TL;DR — As of 28 August 2026, Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for 19 November 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, plus a ~27-minute PS5 in-game showcase called An Extended Look. A 30fps lock and a PC date are still not official.

This is a living fact-check, not a recap of last night's drop. The table below is the article. Everything else exists to keep rumours from sitting next to confirmed facts until launch.

Confirmed vs not (updated 28 August 2026)

Last checked: 28 August 2026, 09:48 Korea time. We only mark a row confirmed if we opened the source.

Claim Status Notes
Title of the new showcase is Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look Confirmed Netflix Tudum, Rockstar
Footage was captured from in-game footage on PlayStation 5 Confirmed Netflix wording. That is a capture platform, not a frame-rate spec
Runtime Confirmed, labels disagree by 1 minute Netflix lists 27 minutes. Kotaku, citing Netflix app listings before premiere, reported 26
Launch date 19 November 2026 Confirmed Netflix, Rockstar
Platforms at launch: PS5 and Xbox Series X|S Confirmed Same
PC release date Not announced Newsis, 9 August 2026
30fps lock / 60fps mode Not confirmed by Rockstar No official spec sheet. Forum posts and "reportedly" headlines do not count
Netflix series or movie Not a thing An Extended Look is a game showcase hosted on Netflix, not a GTA 6 show
Specific YouTube video URL Not listed here yet Official Rockstar YouTube channel exists; we could not verify a unique watch URL at last check, so we will not guess one

We have not watched the full 27 minutes, so this page does not list missions, wanted-star counts, map size, or other gameplay details from recap blogs.

Where to watch it

Last verified: 28 August 2026, 09:48 Korea time. At that moment Netflix was the only place playing the full showcase. Here is what each path actually did when we clicked it.

Path What we found Link
Netflix Playing. First and, at our check, only Tudum
Rockstar's GTA VI site Shows an "An Extended Look: Now Playing" badge, but the Watch Now button links out to netflix.com/GTAVI. It does not host the video rockstargames.com/VI
Rockstar YouTube Only the 26-second announcement teaser, "An Extended Look Coming August 27". Not the 27-minute showcase youtube.com/@RockstarGames

That "Now Playing" badge is worth pausing on, because it is easy to misread: it means the showcase has premiered, not that Rockstar is streaming it. The button goes to Netflix.

Newsis reported that the free version goes up on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the GTA 6 homepage at 10:00 Korea time on 28 August 2026 — six hours after the Netflix premiere. We verified at 09:48, twelve minutes before that. If you are reading this after 10:00 Korea time, check the YouTube channel directly; we have not re-verified past our check time and will not claim a drop we did not see.

One thing to watch for on YouTube: the 26-second teaser shares almost the same title as the full showcase. If a result is under a minute long, it is the teaser.

ThisIsGame asked Netflix Korea and was told the title is available in Korea.

"Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right… we're honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first."

— Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series, Tudum

How to read the next three months

Newsis, citing Take-Two, puts the GTA series at more than 470 million units shipped as of June 2026. Between now and 19 November, expect more trailers, leaks, and "confirmed" graphics-mode posts.

A useful test: if Rockstar, Take-Two, or Netflix did not publish the number, it stays in the unconfirmed column. We will update this table when they do. We will not fill gaps with recap blogs.

Why it matters

  • The confirmed column is short. That is the point. GTA 6 rumours outrun official specs.
  • Netflix-first was a distribution experiment, not a new medium for the game.
  • A fact-check page stays useful until launch. A "video just dropped" recap does not.

FAQ

Is GTA 6 on Netflix as a show?

No. Netflix hosted a gameplay showcase for six hours. That does not make GTA 6 a Netflix original.

Do I still need Netflix to watch it?

At our 09:48 Korea time check on 28 August 2026, yes — Netflix was the only place the full showcase was playing. Rockstar's own page showed a "Now Playing" badge but its Watch Now button linked to netflix.com/GTAVI, and its YouTube channel had only the 26-second teaser. Newsis reported a free drop on Rockstar's YouTube channel and the GTA 6 homepage at 10:00 Korea time the same day, so after that point check YouTube directly.

Did Rockstar confirm 30fps?

No. "Captured on PS5" is not a frame-rate. Until Rockstar or Take-Two publish a spec, 30fps stays unconfirmed on this page.
