AI Game Cheats, the PS5 Relapse Jailbreak and AI-Rebuilt Games: What's Confirmed (Oct 2026)
Explainer, not a how-to: GTA Online cheating vs AI hype, the PS5 Relapse exploit (fw 7.00–13.60) and Sony's 14.10, and AI-decompiled game ports facing Bethesda, Activision and Take-Two takedowns.
TL;DR — Three gaming-security stories got blended together on social media in late September and early October 2026. Here is what the sources support as of 11 Oct 2026 (KST). (1) GTA Online: no major outlet has documented AI-built cheats or AI bots taking over GTA Online. What is documented is older: a PS4 jailbreak let mod-menu users back into GTA Online lobbies around 21 Sep, a big paid GTA cheat menu (Atlas Menu) leaked ~63,900 customer accounts in June, and Rockstar published new mod rules on 21–22 Sep that ban cheat menus and AI clones of real people's voices. (2) PS5: a public exploit called Relapse came out on 29 Sep and works on firmware 7.00–13.60 (Ars Technica). PS5 14.00 (16 Sep) and 14.10 (1 Oct) are outside that range. Sony's 14.10 notes only say "security fixes". (3) AI reverse engineering: after Claude Opus 5.5 arrived, hundreds of AI-decompiled or "vibe-coded" game rebuilds showed up (Kotaku, 9 Oct). They include browser ports of Halo, Black Ops and GTA: Vice City. Bethesda and Activision have already forced takedowns (Kotaku, 3 Oct).
Last checked: 11 Oct 2026 (KST). This is an explainer: what happened, when, and what is at stake for publishers, console makers and players. It is not a how-to. It contains no exploit, jailbreak, cheat or decompilation steps, and we don't link to any tools that provide them. GitHub links appear only where reporters or rights holders named the project, and we give just a one-line description of each.
Quick answer: what is confirmed?
| Thread | What's confirmed | What's hype or unconfirmed | Best source |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI cheats & bots in GTA Online | Mod-menu cheaters returned to PS4 lobbies after a PS4 13.52 jailbreak (21 Sep). Rockstar's PC anti-cheat (BattlEye) has been live since Sep 2024. The Atlas Menu breach exposed ~63.9k accounts (Jun 2026). | That AI tools are now writing GTA Online cheats or that AI "bots" are wrecking lobbies. No major-outlet report. Invite-spam bots exist only as player reports. | Beebom, Dexerto |
| PS5 "cracked" | Relapse exploit public on 29 Sep 2026, firmware 7.00–13.60 (PS5 and PS5 Pro, per specialist sites). Sony shipped 14.10 with "security fixes" on 1 Oct. | That current PS5s (14.00/14.10) are open. A hypervisor bug is still being argued over by scene developers on X, and nobody has published a chain for 14.xx. Sony has not linked 14.10 to Relapse. | Ars Technica, Push Square |
| AI rebuilding whole games | AI-decompiled MW2 (PC) and an AI-coded "Fallout: New York" were pulled after Activision/Bethesda action. Kotaku tested AI browser ports of Halo: CE, Black Ops, Vice City, Skate 3 and Hit and Run, and says some "seem to work perfectly". | Whether the ports use original game assets, and on what legal basis. Kotaku and TDGN say this hasn't been answered. | Kotaku 3 Oct, Kotaku 9 Oct |
One-line takeaway: the "AI" in this story is mainly about rebuilding and remixing games (thread 3). The cheating in GTA Online right now goes through an old route: a console jailbreak plus mod menus, not a new AI tool.
1) GTA Online and AI cheats: what actually happened
The claim going around
Korean and English gaming communities are saying GTA is "getting wrecked by AI": AI-made cheats, AI bots in lobbies, AI mods everywhere. We looked for a major-outlet report of AI-generated GTA Online cheats or AI-run bot farms. As of 11 Oct 2026 we could not find one. Rockstar has not mentioned AI cheating in any statement we found. So treat that part of the claim as unconfirmed.
What is documented
PS4 lobbies were overrun by modders (from ~21 Sep 2026). Beebom and RockstarINTEL both reported on 21 Sep that a new jailbreak for PS4 firmware 13.52 let modified consoles still authenticate with PSN. That brought mod-menu cheaters back into GTA Online's PS4 lobbies with god mode, invisibility and mass cash/RP drops (Beebom, RockstarINTEL). Both cite dataminer Tex2, who said Sony usually cuts PSN access for older firmware a week or two after a new release. RockstarINTEL has since added an update saying Sony closed the gap by requiring firmware 14.00 for PSN. We haven't found a Sony statement confirming that, so treat it as the outlet's report. The risk for regular players: RockstarINTEL warns that receiving illegitimate GTA$ or RP from a modder can get your own account flagged.
A major paid GTA cheat menu got hacked (reported 2 Jun 2026). Dexerto reported that Atlas Menu, which it called GTA Online's most popular paid mod menu, suffered a breach. Have I Been Pwned lists 63,900+ affected accounts, including emails, usernames, IP addresses, support tickets and bcrypt password hashes (Dexerto). Dexerto points out that Atlas's own terms said it was "licensed strictly for offline, single-player use". Whatever you think of cheating, paying a cheat vendor also means handing personal data to people who couldn't protect it.
PC anti-cheat is BattlEye, live since September 2024. Rockstar's support page says BattlEye is used to detect cheat software, manipulation of protected game code, and sabotage of other players, and that it can lead to suspensions or bans (Rockstar Support). In a player survey reported in Feb 2025, Rockstar said it had seen a "significant reduction in the level of cheating in GTA Online on PC" since BattlEye arrived, and mentioned a wide removal of accounts with inflated rank or illegitimate GTA$ (RockstarINTEL). The Sep 2024 ban wave also hit some innocent players, and Rockstar accepted appeals (RockstarINTEL).
"Bots" in lobbies are player reports, not confirmed. Players on r/gtaonline and GTAForums describe accounts spamming invites in sessions, and say clicking "Invite All" can get them kicked. We found no Rockstar acknowledgement or fix note for this in 2026, so file it under community claims. We also found no evidence that these accounts are AI-driven.
Where AI does show up in GTA right now
- AI mash-up mods for single-player GTA V. GamingBible reported a viral Claude Opus 5.5-assisted GTA V × Minecraft crossover and called it "just one of many examples" of AI-built game mash-ups (GamingBible). That's a story-mode mod, not an online cheat.
- Rockstar's new mod rules (21–22 Sep 2026). The Verge (21 Sep) and Kotaku (22 Sep) reported Rockstar's updated guidelines. Mods may not "expand or modify" official storylines, may not cross content over between Rockstar games, and may not port games to unreleased platforms. Multiplayer mods are limited to Rockstar's licensed Creator Platform. The rules also ban using "any real-world person's voice, image, or likeness without written permission" (The Verge, Kotaku). Per DigitalCitizen's summary, they also explicitly prohibit cheat menus and any software that interferes with official multiplayer (DigitalCitizen).
- First AI enforcement: a voice-clone mod (29 Sep 2026). GTA BOOM reported that Spanish streamer IlloJuan said Rockstar, via Rockstar Spain and its New York legal team, told him to stop streaming a GTA V mod that used AI to clone real people's voices (including streamers Ibai and Knekro and Spain's prime minister). Otherwise he risked takedowns and channel strikes (GTA BOOM). This is the creator's own account, relayed by a fan site. Rockstar hasn't commented publicly.
- AI browser ports of GTA: Vice City. See thread 3 below.
Why it matters before GTA VI: Rockstar is tightening modding rules and enforcement ahead of GTA VI's 19 Nov 2026 launch. Dexerto also notes that GTA VI fans are already being targeted with phishing and malware disguised as fake beta downloads. For how GTA VI will run on consoles, see our GTA 6 30fps vs 60fps fact-check and GTA 6: what's confirmed.
2) Has the PS5 been "cracked"? What was publicly shown
Confirmed
- 29 Sep 2026: Relapse goes public. Ars Technica reported (30 Sep) that the new Relapse exploit "works with any PS5 up to firmware version 13.6 (released in July)". That means jailbreaking is now possible on any PS5 last updated before mid-September's 14.00.00. At a high level, Ars describes it as starting from a long-known flaw in the PS5's web browser engine and escalating to kernel access, and says it is much faster than earlier PS5 exploits (Ars Technica). Specialist sites put the range at 7.00–13.60 on PS5 and PS5 Pro and describe it as tethered, meaning it has to be rerun after every reboot.
- Why it's a bigger deal than older PS5 exploits: most PS5 games need the firmware that was current at their launch. A newer exploitable firmware therefore covers many more games. Ars notes this includes backups of legitimately bought digital games, along with homebrew and emulators.
- 16 Sep 2026: PS5 firmware 14.00 shipped and is outside Relapse's range, according to multiple scene trackers (OneJailbreak).
- 1 Oct 2026: PS5 firmware 26.06-14.10.00. Sony's patch notes say only "We've made some security fixes to the system software" and "We've improved system software performance and stability". It was a phased rollout (Push Square, PlayStation LifeStyle).
Not confirmed / hype
- "Sony patched Relapse with 14.10." Sony never said that. RetroVault and Voxtly both note that the link is an inference from timing, not an official statement (RetroVault, Voxtly). 14.00 was already out of range before Relapse went public.
- The hypervisor argument. On 2 Oct, scene developer Jordy posted on X that a PS5 hypervisor bug was still present in 14.10 (relayed by Logic-Sunrise). On 5 Oct, developer Sonic_Iso posted that 14.10 had changed things enough that it no longer works (OneJailbreak). These are developers' posts on X, not demonstrations. Both sources stress that a hypervisor bug is not a jailbreak, and that no public chain exists for 14.00 or 14.10.
- "PS5 is fully cracked." As of 11 Oct, a console updated to 14.00 or later isn't covered by any public exploit, based on everything we read.
Stakes
- For Sony: the two-week cycle the RockstarINTEL piece describes (patch, then cut PSN access for old firmware) is Sony's main lever against jailbroken consoles reaching online services, as the PS4 GTA Online episode shows.
- For players: firmware can't be downgraded. Voxtly also warns that running unofficial software can put your PSN account at risk. Our practical advice is the boring one: keep your console updated. A jailbroken console in an online lobby is the very route that let cheaters back into GTA Online on PS4.
- For publishers: jailbreaks lead to piracy and online cheating. That's why game makers watch firmware ranges as closely as Sony does.
3) AI and reverse engineering used to rebuild whole games
What happened (late Sep–Oct 2026)
- 28 Sep–1 Oct: "Fallout: New York." Creator ChrisFirst posted a browser-playable Fallout-style game he said was coded with Claude Opus 5.5. He said it had no texture or sound files and that everything was "generated by code". The post drew 3.5M+ views. On 1 Oct he said he was abandoning it after an alleged cease-and-desist from Bethesda (Kotaku, TheGamer). Strictly speaking this is an AI recreation, not a decompilation.
- 30 Sep: AI-decompiled Modern Warfare 2 (PC). Developer Maurice Heumann posted that 17 AI agents had made his MW2 decompilation "fully playable". Kotaku reports Activision then had the footage disabled "in response to a report by the copyright owner", and the site said to host the code went offline (Kotaku). On 9 Oct Heumann wrote on his blog that earlier posts had been removed ("corporate America was here to ruin our fun"). He said the project reached 99% of functions reconstructed and 83% byte-exact, and that "none of the code will be shared" (Heumann's blog). He doesn't name the game there.
- 1–5 Oct: human decomp teams push back. Kotaku reported that DarioSamo, a developer on the human-made Zelda/Banjo PC ports, said an AI-generated "Banjo-Tooie Recompiled" was "NOT associated with us". Both teams have "very clear No AI stances". Critics call such projects "slopcomps" that are hard to mod and add nothing to real decompilation research (Kotaku).
- 8–9 Oct: browser ports that actually work. Kotaku's Lewis Parker tested AI-decompiled browser ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops, Halo: CE, GTA: Vice City, Skate 3 and The Simpsons: Hit and Run. He found some "borderline flawless". One Halo port had working online servers and a Hit and Run port targets 240fps. He calls it "IP protection whack-a-mole on a scale I don't think we've seen since the advent of pirated DVDs" (Kotaku). TDGN adds that whether the ports use original assets, and on what basis, "the sources do not say" (TDGN).
The GTA precedent publishers are leaning on
Take-Two has fought GTA decompilations long before AI:
- Feb 2021: Take-Two filed a DMCA notice against the reverse-engineered re3 / reVC (GTA III / Vice City) projects on GitHub (GitHub DMCA notice, 19 Feb 2021). The maintainers counter-noticed. Take-Two then sued the developers in Sep 2021. Its complaint says they "slavishly recreated the original code" by decompiling the games (TorrentFreak, GitHub notice of legal action, 29 Sep 2021).
- Dec 2025: a browser Vice City port on DOS Zone was taken down after a notice from Ebrand on Take-Two's behalf. The notice said inviting users to enter data from original copies "may constitute circumvention of technological protection measures" (Tom's Hardware, XDA).
- Sep 2026: Rockstar's new mod rules ban porting its games to "platforms where they have not been officially released" (Kotaku). A browser port arguably falls in that category.
Public projects named in coverage (reference only)
These links are here only because outlets named them. We aren't recommending them, and this page doesn't explain how to use them.
- Zelda64Recomp/Zelda64Recomp: "Zelda: Recompiled", which Kotaku describes as a human-made PC port whose team has a "No AI" stance.
- N64Recomp/N64Recomp: the "N64: Recompiled" tool that Kotaku says fans use to bring N64 classics to modern hardware.
- HarbourMasters/Shipwright: "Ship of Harkinian" (Ocarina of Time PC port). TheGamer notes it uses "some form of genAI" despite starting long before the current wave.
Stakes
- Publishers: takedowns are working one project at a time (Bethesda, Activision). Kotaku and TDGN both say they can't keep up with the volume once AI makes rebuilding cheap. No publisher has sued an AI company over this so far, according to Kotaku.
- Preservation community: long-running human decomp teams worry that low-quality AI ports will damage the scene's reputation and draw legal fire onto everyone.
- Players: a browser tab that runs Halo is convenient, but ports with no clear license can disappear overnight. One Kotaku-tested port also ran live online servers run by unknown operators.

What we deliberately left out
- Any exploit, jailbreak, payload or "which firmware to stay on" guidance. We also didn't link the Relapse code repository or step-by-step jailbreak guides some sites published.
- Any cheat menu names offered as recommendations, any injector or mod-menu repositories, and AI tooling repos for hooking into GTA V.
- The decompilation methodology in Heumann's post, plus links to the browser ports themselves and to lists of them.
- Unsourced claims of "AI aimbots in GTA Online". We'll add them only if a major outlet or Rockstar reports them.
FAQ
Are AI cheats ruining GTA Online? There's no major-outlet or Rockstar report of that as of 11 Oct 2026. The cheating surge that was reported came on PS4 through a firmware jailbreak with traditional mod menus.
Can my PS5 be jailbroken right now? Per Ars Technica, the public Relapse exploit covers firmware up to 13.60. Consoles on 14.00 or 14.10 are outside it, and no public chain exists for them. We recommend keeping your console updated.
Are AI-decompiled browser ports legal? No court has ruled on the 2026 AI wave. The precedent so far is takedowns: Take-Two's 2021 re3 DMCA and lawsuit, the Dec 2025 Vice City browser takedown, and Bethesda and Activision's action in Oct 2026. Kotaku and TDGN say the asset and licensing question is unanswered.
